Our Mission
Big sky waterfowl was created out of our love and passion for chasing birds in the Big Sky state. Montana has some of the best landscapes to hunt in the United States and some hidden gems when it comes to bird hunting. After years of scouting, working with landowners and thousands of miles in the truck we have uncovered a handful of these places and it is our honor to be able to share these places with others. Our goal at Big Sky Waterfowl is to provide clients with a once in a lifetime hunting experience that reminds them of the times spent with lifelong friends, in areas that are second to none. Our hunts are primarily based out of the Mission Valley, tucked behind the shadows of the Mission Mountain Range, which neighbors the expansive Flathead Lake. We are also working diligently to expand our hunts in the Bitterroot and Deerlodge Valleys.
When you decide to join us on a hunt, we go to work, making sure we have the right fields with the right birds to suit your needs and provide you with the best situation for success. There are a wide variety of birds that come through these valleys, from Mallards and Widgeon to Pintail and Snow Geese. The tailgate can be filled with a mixed bag or a stack of green heads depending on the time of year, migration patterns and weather. Most of the time we see a mixed bag early in the season with it turning to almost exclusively Mallards later in the year. Later in the season the opportunity to get a shot at Widgeon and Pintails increases. For geese we usually have a nice split of Lessors and Greaters during the first half of the year moving to mostly Greaters later on, with the opportunity for limits of both not being uncommon. Whether we are targeting ducks or geese, we promise to provide you with the best opportunities, our guides will only take you to fields that they would hunt on any given day. And to top it off, if a field is producing as expected, We move fields often, out tracking bids movements daily and are in constant contact with landowners so that we can provide you with the best hunt we there is.
Geoff McEvers
Geoff moved to Montana to pursue a degree in forestry from the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana. This decision not only lead him to find one of his most cherished places to hunt, the Flathead Valley in the shadow of the Mission Mountains, but also further ignited his passion for chasing our web footed friends. Geoff has spent the last decade working with landowners, industry designers, television producers and conservation organizations both as a waterfowl and big game guide in multiple states. Working to not only better understand what makes them tick but to better understand what needs to be accomplished to sustain them for generations to come. His hunts have taken him all over the west spanning from Arizona to Colorado and up to Washington, across to the Dakotas and most states between. This has given him the ability to fine tune his skills and broaden his knowledge of these ever-evolving birds. After all this there is still nowhere he would rather hunt than in the beautiful Bitterroot and Mission Valley.
Kyle Hermiston
Born in raised in Plains Montana, Kyle has been waterfowl and big game hunting in Western Montana since he was 12 years old. His father got him started early as he would join him on hunts before he was of legal age. Kyle and dad still share many days in the field each year. It is not uncommon for Kyle to hit over 60 days in the field each years, whether it is chasing mule deer in thick timber of calling birds in over cut corn. In the summers you can find Kyle putting out wildfires all over the country as he is a member of the Lolo Hot Shot crew, the career choice has allowed him to spend the off season following his passion of hunting and fishing.
Peyton
This dog is one of a kind, her passion and love for retrieving birds has been apparent since she was 10 weeks old. The 2018 season will be her second in the field, every trip out she is proving that her pedigree is hard to match. Being trained by the professionals at Bald Mountain Labradors has given her the confidence and obedience to be a one of a kind retriever. a highlight of every hunt is watching this dog work, wether it is in a field or over water, her drive is hard to beat.
